Sports and Walk in Nature Activity

In June2009 we  started  the "Sports and Walk in Nature Activity":

I. The Coopertest

All students will first test their physical condition. The condition will be measured by certain existing tests such as e.g. the Cooper test. The results will be written in a report, sent to the partners and used in the maths lessons.

As an additional activity all students will walk about 12 km in a typical scene of regional nature. They'll take pictures of this walk and present them to the partners.

We didn`t walk. 12km are much too long for lazy people. We did the Coopertest.

The Coopertest is a test of physical fitness. It was designed by Kenneth H. Cooper in 1968 for US military use. In the original form, the point of the test is to run as far as possible within 12 minutes. The test is meant to measure the condition of the person taking it and therefore it is supposed to be run at a steady pace instead of sprints and fast running. The outcome is based on the distance the test person ran, their age and gender. It is an easy test to perform on larger groups, but difficult for the runners, as the length of the run is considered to be that of a long distance run, since everything above 3 km is rated "long distance"—which means the runner will have more use and focus on his red muscle cells.

We did this Coopertest with the class 8d.

Here are our results
